Information on workshop 1 content

The impact and importance of ICT has significant strategic implications for the tour-ism industry. Tourism is a major domain in B2C e-Commerce and ICT for tourism is a vehicle in economic development and important for the diffusion of e-Commerce. ICT also combines in a prototypical way R&D, innovation and economic change. The use of ICT is a major prerequisite in forming strategic alliances, developing innovative distribution channels and communicating with consumers and partners.

The last decade has seen e-Business transform consumer behaviour and business practices resulting in a rapid growth of applications and also new business models. As a result it has and will have effects on the labour market of tourism and also on the supply and demand of tourism products and services. European tourism will have to adapt to these developments and apply distinctive ICT-tools to remain competitive.

The workshop's focus lies on the important tourism value chain - from the service provider through to the consumer.
