Common Fisheries Policy

Although fisheries policy has only a limited direct impact on a landlocked country like Austria (aquaculture/inland fishing), Austria as Presidency has a major responsibility towards the other EU Member States with a tradition of deep-sea fishing. The Austrian Presidency will pay particular attention to continuing the sustainable management of fishery resources and the environmental compatibility of the fisheries policy. The successful implementation of the reform of the Common Fisheries Policy (CFP), in particular multi-annual recovery plans and the new measures to conserve stocks, including improved scientific assessments and more effective control and monitoring measures, are thematic priorities. If possible, depending on the outcome of the negotiations on the Community financial perspective, the necessary financial basis for both the overall fisheries policy and structural investment (European Fisheries Fund) is to be finalised during the Austrian Presidency.
