Information on the event

Since the autumn of 2003, the EU has been engaged in negotiations with six regional groupings of ACP States (West Africa, Central Africa, South East Africa, Southern Africa, Caribbean and Pacific) concerning economic partnership agreements (EPA). The main goal of this commitment is the fight against poverty and continuous integration of ACP States into the world global economy. Negotiations are expected to be completed by 2007.

In order to advance the trade negotiations between the EU and the 80 or so ACP States, an ACP-EU Ministerial Trade Committee will meet in Brussels on 13 March. The theme of the meeting will be the present state of EPA negotiations with the six ACP regions. In addition, an exchange of ideas is foreseen on the multilateral negotiations in the framework of the WTO and market access questions will be discussed. At the meeting, the EU Member States will be represented by the European Commission.
