Finance Minister Karl-Heinz Grasser at macroeconomic dialogue in Brussels

Working together for more growth and jobs in Europe

The President of the ECOFIN Council, Federal Minister Karl-Heinz Grasser, today met representatives of the European Trade Union Confederation, the European industry associations, the European Central Bank and the European Commission for the macroeconomic dialogue. The meeting centred on growth and employment issues in Europe.

All the participants explicitly endorsed the European economic and social model. This includes securing stability-oriented monetary, wage and fiscal policy as well as the carrying out economic reforms and strengthening social cohesion.

Minister Grasser stressed that all the economic actors, governments, social partners and EU institutions had a common responsibility for achieving more and better jobs in Europe. He also stressed that the nascent upturn in growth had to be used to carry out more structural reforms in the Member States and that the quality of public finances had to be further improved in terms of expenditure geared to the future.
