The Presidency of the European Union recalls with profound concern the tragic events in Andijan that took place one year ago, on 12 and 13 May 2005.
The Presidency recalls earlier statements of the European Union on this matter, especially the Council Conclusions of 3 October 2005, which imposed restrictive measures on the authorities of the Republic of Uzbekistan as a consequence of these events.
The Presidency expresses its disappointment and concern at the failure of the Uzbek authorities to react to these decisions in an appropriate manner. The EU will continue to follow closely the situation in Uzbekistan.
