Statement by Foreign Minister Plassnik on behalf of the EU Presidency on the death of the Amir of Kuwait

I have learned with great sadness of the death of the Amir of Kuwait, Sheikh Jaber Al Ahmad Al Sabah. He was a man of great leadership and vision who had done so much for his country and his people. During his long and distinguished reign, His Highness the Amir of the State of Kuwait Sheikh Jaber Al Ahmed Al Jaber Al Sabah has been tireless in promoting the modernisation of Kuwait and has contributed significantly to the international standing of the State of Kuwait.

On behalf of the Austrian Presidency of the European Union I would like to extend our sincerest condolences to His Highness the Amir Saad Al – Abdallah Al – Salim Al – Sabah and to the Kuwaiti people on their sad loss.
