Employment and unemployment rates

The unemployment rate in Austria over the past ten years has ranged between 3.8 and 4.8%, which is well below the EU average. Austria is among the countries with the lowest long-term and youth unemployment rates in the EU.

Chart and Table

Despite the increase in unemployment due to the unfavourable cyclical conditions, the employment rate in Austria has steadily grown and is now just below the EU's employment objective of 70% of the gainfully employed.
