1. The EU has learned that the broadcasting of BBC World Service radio programmes on FM frequencies has been suspended in Tajikistan since 11 January 2006, apparently because the World Service has not fully complied with new regulations for the re-registration of its operations in Tajikistan.
2. According to the BBC, it has not received any official written notice concerning the suspension of its transmissions. The BBC also believes that it would normally take up to six months to comply with the new registration requirements.
3. The European Union calls upon the Tajik authorities to allow the BBC to resume the broadcast of its programmes during the process of registration.
